A philosopher's guide to messy transformations - article by Pia Lauritzen

Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Qvest, Pia Lauritzen, PhD’s new article A philosopher's guide to messy transformations is out now in Strategy+Business.

In her work with multinational companies undergoing large scale change, Pia noticed that Transformations often fail because leaders don’t acknowledge the importance of inviting people with different ways of thinking and talking about transformation to join a common conversation.

Pia wrote the article to help leaders, and their organizations, navigate the messy middle of transformation - the unknown, uncertain space between past and future, between theory and practice, that organizations must move through when they are in the process of becoming something new.

The article presents a matrix based on Aristotle’s conceptualization of different knowledge domains. But, in contrast to most management 2x2 figures, this is not a matrix where you should strive to land in the upper right corner.

Instead you need to focus on safely navigating your organization through the messy middle. Read Pia’s surprisingly simple suggestions for how to do it in the article - available in Strategy+Business - no subscription required.
